Nasdaq Stock Exchange announced the addition of two new cryptocurrency indices to its Nasdaq Global Index Data ServiceSM (GIDS) real-time quotes service.

Starting February 25, Nasdaq will begin transmitting to service subscribers information about the behavior of Bitcoin and Ethereum, collected by Brave New Coin, a data mining company cryptocurrency assets.

The two Brave New Coins for the Nasdaq index are the Bitcoin Liquid Index (BLX) and the Ethereum Liquid Index (ELX). Both are intended to receive information in real time about the state of the spot market of cryptocurrencies and the reference rate of 1 BTC and 1 ETH, respectively.

Quotes will be transmitted in US dollars and calculated in accordance with the indicators of the most liquid markets. The index will be updated every 30 seconds.

“Both indices are calculated based on a methodology independently audited for compliance with the principles of the International Organization of Commissions on securities (IOSCO). BLX is one of the most widely used indices among crypto traders, and the data included in it covers the period up to 2010. ELX was similarly calculated until 2014, ”the exchange said (note - Brave New Coin's documentation states that ELX data covers the period from August 2015).

Nasdaq recently announced that it is providing its technical solutions to seven cryptocurrency exchanges.
